What is found in Westen Tanzania?

Found within Malagara Valley and Lake Tanganyika, A less visited land in Tanzania, western Tanzania is like a new destination for many tourists. Although tourists visiting the western circuit aiming to track chimpanzees in Gombe or Mahale Mountains National Parks. The other national parks offer more than chimpanzee trekking.  There is a regular flight from Dar es salam to Tabora, Kigoma, and Mpanda three times a week which makes the destination more accessible. The road from Mpanda to Mahale has brought this park even closer and affordable to many tourists.

What to see in Western Tanzania?

Most of the National Parks are part of Malagarasi Valley which forms the second largest river in Tanzania, the Malagarasi River. It is also one of the rivers that have slow-moving water and delivers its water to Lake Tanganyika. The are is suitable for Birdlife and a sweet home for Hippos and Crocodiles. It is the only place you will find over 600 hippos in one pool. Western Tanzania offers the best chimp tracking but also, water activities on the deepest lake in Africa and the longest lake in Africa.

Western Tanzania offers more wildlife than many parks in the northern circuit. Even though northern circuits receives many tourists still western circuit has what you cannot find on northern circuits. The ornithological picture of western Tanzania is highly promising with the occurrence of more than 60% of the bird species found in Tanzania. Currently, it has been recorded, 723 bird species out of 1,157 from 94 families are documented. There are around other 40 species believed to occur in the region which is not described. There is a good number of bird species that are only found in western Tanzania. Buts till Malagarasi Valley offer suitable stopover for migratory birds from Asia, Europe, and America as far as other parts of Africa. The high diversity of habitats from vast Rift Mountains to Miombo woodlands and underground water forest increases the uniqueness of the area and partly explains the high number of bird species
